A variation of the plain weave using paired yarns in both directions, creating a flatter, more uniform fabric with reduced gaps and enhanced strength.
Our Products
Find the right reinforcement fabric solution for your project — engineered for strength, consistency, and reliability.
High-Performance Fabrics for Every Application
At Georgian Bay Fabrics, we provide a comprehensive selection of reinforcement materials engineered for strength, precision, and reliability. From uni-directional and woven fabrics to specialty composites, our products are designed to meet the exacting demands of industrial and structural applications. Whether you’re looking to maximize performance, reduce weight, or ensure consistent quality, our fabrics deliver the results your projects require.
High-Performance Woven Fabrics
Our high-performance woven fabrics combine precision engineering with exceptional strength and durability. Designed for demanding composite applications, they provide consistent fiber distribution, superior dimensional stability, and reliable performance, making them ideal for structural, industrial, and specialty projects.
Woven Roving
Woven fiberglass roving products are heavier, thicker products made with zero-twist yarns. The material comes standard in Plain or Basket (Hop-Sack) weave patterns. Other patterns are possible but are a special order.
Roving is standard E Glass sourced from China.
North American E Glass, S2 glass and ECR glass are available upon request.
Woven Direct Sized Glass
Light to medium weight fiberglass tapes made with strong Direct Size yarns. Available in Plain weave or select Mock Leno fabrics, with custom patterns and hot-melt uni-directional options. Our tapes come in the widths and weights you require. Our tapes are made with E-Glass and S2-Glass.
Woven Zylon
Zylon is the strongest organic fiber on the market. It has similar properties to Aramid but performs about 50% better in all mechanical properties. Our tapes come in all the widths and weights you require.
Ancaref® Materials
Ancaref® materials are non-woven, uni-directional fabrics compatible with all standard resins, offering maximum fiber density, fast impregnation and no resin pockets. Ancaref® products are thin, flat and no-crimp. They deliver maximum tensile strength.
Fabrics are supported by a co-polyester scrim. This fabric offers optimum load bearing capacity and gives maximum strength in the direction of the load. Ancaref materials come standard in Carbon, S2 Glass Fiberglass and Kevlar fiber. Additionally various product configurations are available. For example, hybrids of different fibers.
Woven Carbon Products
Our carbon tapes are made on narrow fabric looms. This means that the weft is always doubled up and that the edges are woven, so no feathered edges. Our carbon tapes come as uni-directional with either glass or hotmelt in the weft or as 100% carbon with carbon in both warp and weft.
Woven Kevlar® (Aramid)
Our Kevlar® (aramid) tapes are made on narrow fabric looms. This means that the weft is always doubled up, and that the edges are woven, so no feathered edges. Our tapes come standard with Kevlar® in both directions and are custom made to your specifications. Our standard weight is 6oz/yd2.
Fabric Weaves Engineered for Performance
The weave pattern plays a critical role in how a fabric performs—impacting strength, flexibility, stability, and surface finish. We offer a range of weave constructions to suit different applications, helping you achieve the right balance of performance and efficiency for your project.
Hopsack/Basket Weave
Uni-directional
Uni-directional fabrics have most yarn running in one direction. These are fabrics where the strength demand is in one direction only. Most uni-directional fabrics have low stability. This can be improved by placing hot melt strands or weave the thin yarn with a leno motion. Both will stabilize the fabric, but it will never be as good as one of the other fabrics. Stability does improve with a tighter weave.
Mock Leno
A thick, open – structured weave designed for permeability and effective resin wet-out, offering solid strength with textured surface but limited drape. Yarn runs in groups leaving space in between. Warp and weft lock each other in place at the interlacing.
Twill Weave
A fabric with diagonal pattern that offers improved drape, smoother surface, and greater strength than plain weave, though with slightly reduced stability in higher-count twills. Yarns go over 1 and under “many”. In the illustration it is 1-3.
Plain Weave
A well-balanced, stable fabric with a wavy surface and clean-cut edges, offering good strength and slower wet-out due to tight interlacing of warp and weft fibers. This is our most stable weave, with most crimp. Yarns go “over-under”.
