Summer in Ontario

Written by Christine van der Weg. Posted in News

August already….I am noticing the days getting shorter and the birds are starting to gather into large groups on the farmers fields. It took a long time to trust that winter was done, and now….we are heading that way again. But we have been busy  – I am adding photos of our new developments in Carbon tapes. T0116-0060-C T0117-0076-C T0118-0076-C T0119-0076-C T0120-0060-C - with inch ruler The colour is polyester and when the product is wet out – you see only colour and black carbon. Nice! There are no issues with acquiring carbon anymore – so we are able to readily make these products. For those of us who don’t work (my kids) there is summer camp. This is the first time I have sent my children away for extended periods of time (the boys were gone for 4 weeks).  It won’t be the last. Ontario is a wonderful place to spend the summer in the great outdoors. See the 5 exhibits below.        IMG_8673 IMG_8646 IMG_8697 IMG_8681 IMG_8657 Fall will be here soon – with its fairs and colours. Of course hockey is right around the corner as well. If you need anything – you know where we are. Otherwise….till next time. Christine

Innovation & Recycling & Summer

Written by Christine van der Weg. Posted in News

In our bid to do the right thing for our planet. We try to reduce, reuse and recycle what we can. You may notice in your packaging that we often put cardboard lids on our woven roving fabric. These come from the packaging of our roving. Also rolls of woven tapes are often put into boxes that our yarn comes in.  We reverse the lids so no writing is visible and then reuse them.  Remaining cardboard goes into the recycle bin. Its the small things we each do that make the difference. Another project we have helped out is the Blue Sky Solar Racing team. Some of our woven roving is being used in the construction of the new vehicle.  Helping out new innovation is exciting and following their blogs and website is fun. http://www.blueskysolar.utoronto.ca/ Summer – we have gone from below freezing to summer weather in the course of….2-3 weeks!  No spring here. I am adding a picture for verification – yes that’s me swimming with cousins & kids on mothers day. IMG_8312            IMG_8258 Also news worthy – We spotted 3 moose in Algonquin Provincial Park – Ontario Canada on Friday May 15th. All the best to you and yours. Christine

Back on the Net

Written by Christine van der Weg. Posted in News

When setting up the website we put it on a new host site…we have had some confusion with the old host and the new one and I couldn’t access the website to update it for a while. But all is well again – Problem solved. In the time I was away from the net we have continued developing our Ancaref line. We had some set backs; a blown up motor and some successes; feedback from customers saying the product is of good quality and working well. I am adding 2 new photos of the Ancaref product to look at.

We are using Kevlar made by E.I. Dupont in our product – which makes for high quality product and uniformity in colour and sizing. Along with the Ancaref line we continue with our standard products. We are making the 6oz and 9oz tapes daily and our roving looms are weaving away making 24oz and 18oz products (we do make others but that’s what’s currently taking up our time) Its good to have an outlet again – to let you know how things are going here. We have received the SAMPE Baltimore 2015 flyers and are planning to attend the event. Hope to see you there. Till next time – hopefully soon. Christine

Happy New Year

Written by Christine van der Weg. Posted in News

It is 2015! Happy New Year!  I will need to remember that when I am writing the date on things – it may take a while. Luckily the computer picks up many of these typo’s for me. January 2 - snowI returned to work today and started by shovelling snow for an hour. I am adding a picture of my handy work – for the enjoyment of all of you living in places where there is no snow.  Christmas day there was no snow here – this has all fallen in the last 2 days. ski hillThat said I can’t complain about the snow as it has allowed us to get out skiing/snowboarding during the holidays. I must say getting outdoors in the fresh air is enjoyable. This is my brother, his daughter, my sisters daughter and my son William. The whole family hit the slopes which made it that much more enjoyable. AncarefBut all was not quiet here at work. Our computer systems were updated during the vacation and Gerrit has been busy fine tuning the Ancaref line – our uni-directional product.  Our first product almost meets our quality standards. There are still a couple ends that need adjusting – but after that we feel we are ready to create any unidirectional product you need.  The product in this picture is ANC-CU-320-051   Here at Georgian Bay Reinforcement Fabrics we are looking forward to a busy year filled with new challenges. We hope to have you along for the ride. Till next time. Christine

9 more days till Christmas – 15 more days till 2015

Written by Christine van der Weg. Posted in News

The hustle and bustle seems to have gone to a chaotic level this year …. and that is fantastic for Georgian Bay Reinforcement Fabrics. Its been a while coming but we seem to be back to pre recession numbers. And thus we have hired some new employees to assist us with the growth. We have added a non-woven line to the assortment. Its been slow getting it up and running – but yesterday the machine was certified by the electric safety board!  This will be our last week of full production – from December 22nd to January 2nd we will only have a skeleton crew operating. We will be able to ship out of inventory – but make to order products will be delayed until the new year. Wishing you all the best Christine
