Ancaref….Yes We Can

Written by Christine van der Weg. Posted in News

It’s been more than a year now since we have produced the first rolls of Ancaref and I just want to celebrate that we are good at it. We now have worked with carbon, S-2 glass and Kevlar and are able to make weight, width and pattern to almost any specification. We have a slitter now that will enable us to expand our abilities with the Ancaref products. Ancaref is a unidirectional product held together with a webbing.  It is a flat, no-crimp fabric that  provides directionally tailored reinforcement to FRP laminates in hand-layup, wet-preg, pre-preg, and vacuum infusion lamination processes. We are very proud of this new product and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call us. ANC-CU-100-305 pic 2ANC-SU-135-305Ancaref

religious-merry-christmas-clipart-ch-merry-christmas-017 We would like to express our appreciation to you for your ongoing support of our business this past year. For us 2015 has been an exciting year of growth. In October 2014 we purchased the assets of Sciart in Drummondville Quebec. This has allowed us to expand our product line from woven roving and tapes to our new Ancaref – unidirectional line of Kevlar, carbon, e-glass and s-glass. It has been a great learning experience to develop and bring online this unidirectional, no-crimp product. We are now at a point where we can comfortably say that we can supply most any need when it comes to unidirectional Ancaref products. Along with the Ancaref we have continued to make various weights of woven roving and glass tapes. We have seen an increase in demand in these products as well. This year and next we will continue to work on building partnerships with our customers. Knowing that by working together we can bring a better product to market. Here in Midland things have changed for us. We have added more floor space to our operation and added some new faces to our crew. It is interesting to note that adding some young blood to the mix, brings with it enthusiasm and optimism. With the expansion we have had some growing pains and experienced some quality hic-ups but as in the past, our commitment to quality and customer service is second to none. Please don’t hesitate to call and let us know if you have any issues. We are always working to improve our level of customer satisfaction. Looking to the future – we are working on getting our Iwer looms operational – currently we are waiting on the electricians to power them up. These looms will be able to make a unidirectional product which is held together with hot melt yarn. The nomenclature for this is called “the HMF – product”. It is made with various input materials. We envision ourselves starting off with S-2glass and carbon. We are hopeful that next year will bring a similar growth for us as this year brought. Together with you we believe this is possible. Merry Christmas and Happy 2016. From all of us here at Georgian Bay Reinforcement Fabrics

We Remember – November 11th

In Flanders Fields

Flanders Poppy on the First World War battlefields.

by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

New Space

Written by Christine van der Weg. Posted in News

We have a new sign! Our company has grown into a new location.  We are hoping to start moving on the setting up and trial running of a no crimp unidirectional product and needed some more space to facilitate that. We know there is interest in the S-Glass unidirectional product and hope to be up and running by the new year. Here’s a quick picture of our new carbon tape – it’s a carbon glass product. Back to School and …..

Written by Christine van der Weg. Posted in News

Welcome to our winter pass time – Ice Hockey.  Yes starting at the end of August our kids are back to the arena and on the ice.  Here you see 3 levels of progression.  You’ll notice that the youngest one has a picture of her in the change room…..that’s because at that age the dressing room is as enjoyable (if not more) then the sport itself. You hear that hockey is the Canadian pass-time and although I didn’t grow up with the sport, I now have all 3 kids playing and am struck each time by the passion, sacrifice and dedication people have for this sport. We provide material to the manufacturers of hockey sticks and there is a sense of pride that there are players playing with sticks reinforced by our material. We are able to cut the material to specific lengths to facilitate the manufacturing of the sticks. It used to be a big seller for us – but with the move to composite sticks this market has gotten smaller. That said we do send a steady supply of material to our customers and notice that S-Glass in particular is popular these days.  Any way  from the end of August to March  “I can’t, I have hockey”  Cheers, Christine Minor PeeweeNovice                       Initiation
